A 35-year-old man, Oladele Oladunmoni, who allegedly insterted his finger into the private part of a three-month-old baby, was yesterday arraigned in a Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos and has been charged of child abuse.
The prosecutor, Inspector Rita M
omah, told the court that the accused was a neighbour who was briefly in contact with the infant when he committed the offence on January 18 at his residence.
Adding that a medical doctor, who examined the baby, confirmed that the infant was defiled.
She said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, and the said law prescribes life imprisonment for offenders of child rape.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The magistrate, Mrs F. A. Adeeyo, granted the accused N500,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till March 14 for mention.
